Open source powerhouses
Om Malik of Business 2.0 and GigaOm has a great post up discussing Vyatta and the XORP project. XORP is open source router software on par with Cisco. Vyatta has refined the software and bundled hardware too. The result? A Cisco caliber device at 25% the price. Wow – any business using multiple Cisco boxes knows how quickly hardware, software and support costs add up. In the rest of the article, Om outlines other open source superstars including Snort (one of our favorites), Asterisk (love that too) and Nagios. All excellent starting points if you’re looking to dabble with open source products.
